UNIT 3, WEEK 12:
Session 1
New skills are introduced, and students have multiple opportunities to apply and practice.
In Session 1, fully scripted instructional routines are used to introduce to new skills in phonological awareness, letter recognition and formation, phonics, high-frequency words, concepts of print, and fluency.
Early in the year, Grade K Phonics lessons focus on letter learning in Learn Letters! Later in the year, they focus on building words in Build Words!
Purposeful practice in the Student Worktext allows students to immediately apply what they have learned.
Grade K students enjoy engaging, fun stories and rhymes, with whimsical illustrations in Alphabet Tales, our program-specific Big Book.
Alphabet Tales is used during Read Aloud! to reinforce each letter and teach concepts of print in a whole class format.
Alphabet Books are visual little books used in Units 1–3 that help build concepts of print, alphabet knowledge, and oral language.
Students read Alphabet Books in small groups during the Let’s Read! part of each session.
