Level C
Sample Lesson
About the skills progression:
Instruction at this level includes more challenging, less common phonics skills.
The last third of the level focuses on minor sounds of letter/sound associations students already know. The minor sounds are less common and require more cognitive effort to decode, as students learn how to determine which sound should be decoded to make a word.

Level C lessons feature a single decodable text with three connected parts. Texts increase in difficulty across the level, mirroring the skill progression.
Students complete written and oral comprehension questions with sentence stems to support them in making meaning.
STUDENT BOOK
At the end of Level C, Challenge Texts serve as a bridge from Phonics for Reading to move toward reading grade-level texts.
These texts include skills students have learned in the program as well as the types of words and topics students are likely to encounter in grade-level texts.
